Welcome to the Emerald City Hockey Injury Report page. Here, we’ll keep an updated list of all the Kraken’s injuries and COVID-19 absences this season. The report will include the latest information gathered from in-person coverage of the team and media availabilities with players and coaches.

Chris Driedger
Injury: lower body
Injured on: 11/29/21
12/1 – Chris Driedger has been placed on IR with a lower-body injury, according to Kraken PR. It’s worth noting that Driedger was placed on IR earlier in the season with a knee injury that did take longer than expected to heal.
Will Borgen
Injury: lower body
Injured on: 11/29/21
12/1 – Hakstol says Will Borgen has a lower-body injury and will be unavailable for tonight’s game at Detroit. Borgen blocked a pair of shots in the first period in Buffalo but appeared no worse for wear afterwards. No official status update given beyond tonight.
Jaden Schwartz
Injury: lower body

12/1 – Hakstol says Jaden Schwartz has a lower-body injury and will be unavailable for tonight’s game at Detroit. No official status update given beyond tonight.
Jordan Eberle
Injury: lower body
Injured on: 11/29/21
12/1 – Hakstol says Eberle is unavailable for tonight’s game at Detroit. No official status update given beyond tonight
11/29 – Eberle was injured in tonight’s game vs. the Buffalo Sabres. He took a slash to the leg in the first period but returned to play afterwards. His final shift was at the 11:57 mark of the second period.
Calle Jarnkrok
Injury: undisclosed
Injured on: 11/24/21
12/1 – Jarnkrok has been placed on IR, per Seattle Kraken PR.
11/26 – Dave Hakstol says Jarnkrok is still being evaluated and did not join the Kraken on their eastern road trip.
11/24 – Jarnkrok missed most of the third period after getting sandwiched between a pair of Hurricanes players. No update on his status after the game.

Mason Appleton
Injury: right leg/ankle/foot
Injured on: 10/26/21
11/24 – Appleton is set to return tonight vs. the Carolina Hurricanes
11/23 – Appleton has been practicing with the team for a week now. There’s been no official change in his status and he hasn’t taken line rushes yet, but he seems to be progressing toward a return in the not too distant future.
11/16 – Appleton returned to the ice for today’s practice. He skated before practice but didn’t participate in any drills. His ankle was still taped up after practice, so it doesn’t seem like his return is imminent. Still, getting back on the ice is a sign of progress.
11/4 – Mason Appleton was injured during the Kraken’s game against the Canadiens on October 26th when Montreal defenseman Sami Niku fell on his right leg. Appleton has been placed on injured reserve and is out indefinitely.
Colin Blackwell
Injury: lower body injury
Injured on: Before Training Camp
11/13 – Blackwell has been cleared to return and will play tonight vs. the Minnesota Wild.
11/10 – Blackwell took line rushes with the team in practice today, but Dave Hakstol says there’s no change in his injury status.
11/5 – Blackwell skated with the rest of the team in practice today for the first time as a member of the Kraken. He took part in drills but was an extra forward in the line rushes. While Hakstol said there was no change in his status, this is a positive development in his recovery.
11/4 – We’ve yet to get a concrete timeline for Colin Blackwell, who missed all of training camp and has yet to participate in a game or a full practice with the Kraken. He’s been skating before practice for a couple weeks, indicating that he’s working himself closer to a return. It’s hard to say when exactly that will be. He remains on injured reserve.
Yanni Gourde
Injury: right knee
Injured on: 11/9/21
11/11 – Gourde was on the ice for morning skate today. Dave Hakstol said he’s a game-time decision for tonight’s game against the Anaheim Ducks. Update: Gourde will play.
11/10 – Gourde was not on the ice for practice today after missing the end of yesterday’s game. Dave Hakstol says he’s day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
11/9 – Gourde blocked a shot with his right knee in the second period of tonight’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights. He did return to the game, but left again and missed the final 15 minutes of the third period. Here’s the play:
Ryan Donato
Injury: upper body injury
Injured on: 11/6/21
11/11 – Donato returned to the lineup for the Kraken’s game against the Anaheim Ducks.
11/10 – Donato practiced with the team this morning wearing a white jersey, meaning the red non-contact jersey thankfully only lasted one day. He took line rushes on the fourth line.
11/9 – Donato participated in morning skate before the Kraken’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights wearing a red non-contact jersey.
11/6 – Ryan Donato was injured after crashing into the boards in the first period of the Kraken’s game against the Arizona Coyotes. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game with an upper body injury.
Marcus Johansson
Injury: lower body injury
Injured on: 10/12/21
11/9 – Marcus Johansson will return to the lineup tonight against the Vegas Golden Knights.
11/5 – Johansson skated with the rest of the team in practice today for the first time since his injury on 10/12. He took part in drills but was an extra forward in the line rushes. While Hakstol said there was no change in his status, this is a positive development in his recovery.
11/4 – Marcus Johansson was injured in the Kraken’s season opener against the Vegas Golden Knights and has yet to fully practice with the team since. Johansson was placed on injured reserve after the game. He’s been skating with other injured players before practice for about a week. No definite timetable has been given for his return.
Chris Driedger
Injury: knee
Injured on: 10/18/21
11/3 – Chris Driedger rejoined the team at practice today after the Kraken activated him from injured reserve yesterday. Driedger clarified that he sustained a knee injury on a Flyers goal in Seattle’s 6-1 loss in Philadelphia.
10/19 – Chris Driedger has been placed on injured reserve.
Vince Dunn
Injury: undisclosed
Injured on: 10/14/21
10/19 – Dunn is set to return to the lineup tonight against the New Jersey Devils.
10/16 – Vince Dunn is considered day-to-day after suffering an undisclosed injuury in the Kraken’s 4-3 win over the Nashville Predators.
